We may be the new kid in town but our towkay Wong Yew Loon or “Ah Loon” started off as a hawker who turned full-time durian seller in 2008. From a makeshift stall, he progressed to the present shop house along East Coast Road.
Our prominent shop front attracts the crowds, with the respectable gourmets in particular making a beeline from his D13s. The reddish hint of D13’s flesh allows sellers to make a pretense as a wannabe of the esteemed Ang Hei (red prawn) cultivar from Penang. Our distinct D13 originates from Johor and it stir consumers’ curiosity for its variety of tastes ranging from bitter to sweet. It bears a soft custard-like texture that makes one worth drooling for.
The D101 is another cultivar often mistaken for the D13 with a similar taste that is a slight notch down. Golden phoenix comes mainly from East Malacca. This cultivar has a light green or greyish outer husk and is loved by fans for its uniquely sweet and bitter taste.
